How the calculation works

The tip is calculated as a percentage of the bill. The total is the bill plus the tip, and the per-person amount is the total divided by the number of people.

Good defaults

If you’re unsure, many people use 15–20% for table service. For large groups, check whether gratuity is already included on the bill.
